And the shadows will fall behind you.
Update loading…
Life has been so busy lately, I have been wanting to write, but my brain has felt scattered and distracted lately. So many thoughts and ideas but I’m struggling to find focus, and maybe there’s a bit of a confidence hurdle in there as well.
I’m still going STRONG!
The more distance I put between myself and the last time I had a drink, the easier it gets. I still have the odd moment where I feel I could have a drink, but I “play the tape forward” and remind myself of my WHY. (If you’re keen to read more, here is a previous post I wrote on my sober journey)
I watched an Instagram post the other day with Brene Brown and this sentence really resonated with me:
“When we use substances to numb the darkness, we by default numb the light”
Brene Brown
This is so true for me. I feel so much more joy these days. Not because life is easier or happier but because I’m noticing so many more things that bring me happiness. More connected, clear headed and content with the little things.
Life Lessons Lately
I love to look at life through a lens of analogies.
Let’s say you have this huge pile of laundry in front of you. It’s overwhelming, you don’t feel like sorting it out, it looks like it will take 10 business days to get through. So, you decide not to bother.
Or….
You decide to tackle it for just 5 minutes – you manage to sort out some of it, then you leave it for a little later. You continue to do this – 5 minutes here, 5 minutes there between everything else you are doing. And all of a sudden, you realize, the pile is gone – in a space of 2 hours, you managed this victory and also got some work done and enjoyed a cup of coffee.
It’s amazing what the mind will try and tell you in an effort to protect itself – avoid the task, it’s too much work, this is the safer route. Then you tackle it little by little and before you know it you have achieved the impossible in a fraction of the time you thought it would take. This phenomenon baffles me! I do it ALL THE TIME!!! I build things up in my head, convince myself they’re too much, and then the moment I commit to just a small step, I get the dang thing DONE.
When in Doubt – JUST START!
Attitude of Gratitude
How often do you pause for a moment and truly appreciate where you are today compared to where you started? We often underestimate just how much we’re capable of and how far we’ve come.
The real victories aren’t always found in the big milestones – they’re hidden in the small, consistent steps we take along the way. For a long time, I was fixated on the outcome. If I didn’t achieve the exact result I had envisioned, I felt disappointed. But I’ve come to realize that growth isn’t measured solely by the destination. It’s measured by the progress, the lessons learned, and the courage to keep moving forward, even when the finish line isn’t yet in sight.
I am so grateful for every step that has led me to where I am today.
